Trailers from our chosen genre

Here are two trailers that our group has looked at that link to our choson genre. The first trailer that we looked at was Parnomal Activity: The Mark Ones, when the trailer first starts we get a opening scene of what looks like a party, we also get a few other short scene of other places within the movie setting the scene of where the movie is going to be set. While this is going on we get cheerful upbeat music playing in the background. This starts to create a narrtive for the audience to go along with, but then it suddleny changes when the music cuts out and we hear the sound of sirens, this leads onto, us as the audience hearing a voiceover of one of the main character talking about what might of happened. As the trailer continues we see the main characters walking into what looks like a abandoned flat and the lighting goes dark and all we see is a little bit of light  coming from a torch, this only allows us as the audience to see certain parts to the flat this gives the sense of mystry and fear because we don't know what is going on and what is going to happen. During the trailer there is not alot of music in the background and the music that has been used is really quite compared to the loud voices of the characters, when you listen to what the people are saying you can hear the terror in their voices. The shots that are used in this trailer is a POV shot and also some close up shots, by using the close up shots it allows the audience to see the terror on the characters faces.
the pace of the cuts are very slow at the beginning but as the the terror starts to happen the cuts start to get quicker and very sharp cuts at that. When you get near to the end you get this Big Bang and it goes all black suggesting somegthing bad has happened.

The second trailer that we looked at was The Blaire Witch Project, which is based on a group of three students making a documentry on The Blaire Witch. When the trailer first starts we see a black screen with writing describing what the basic narrtive is of the flim, by doing this it gives the audience some sense of what the flim is going to be about. As the trailer carrys on we get a mid shot of one of the main characters explaining who she is and what the group are going to inbark on, after this we get a few clips of them interviewing the local people to see what they think about The Blaire Witch and to see if they think that she is real. Through out the trailer we get different short clips of the groups journey into discovering if the witch is real, During this the cuts that are made are very slow and there is no music playing in the background this suggest that they want you to listen to what they are saying this starts to build a atmosphere for the audience because it gets them thinking about whether this story could be real or not. When you get to about 1:09 in the tailer that is when the cuts to speed up and the tension starts to build up, when you look at the clips that are played from this point there is sill no muisc and all you here are the voices of the main characters, also thre lighting is much more darker and you can minimual lighting, this only allows us as the audience to see little bits of what is happening.By doing this it starts to build up the audiences feeling of not knowing what is happening and what is going to happen so this makes them want to see the movie.
What there also is throught out the trailer is that there are different reviews from certain Newspapers and other well know forms of media, this helps the audience decide weather this is a flim for them to take the time and see because if the have  bad review people are not going to go see the flim. At the end of the trailer there is no billing block inforceing that this is a low budget film.

Your chosen film trailers are suitable ones to study as they fit into various thriller/horror genres. You have described the camera shots and angles used as well as the selection of plotlines and scenes from the movie within the trailer.

Try to pick one or two particular scenes/camera shots/use of music etc to analyse. Try to think about why the director has chosen it, what effect it creates on the audience and whether or not you could consider a similar technique within your own trailer.
