When we first started to research into what genre we was going to chose we had to start to think about who we was going to aim our trailer at. So we first started to research into what genres people like, the way that we done this was we went around a group of male and females of all different ages asking them to fill in our questionnaire, the results that we got from this helped us alot narrowing down our genre choice to thriller and documentry as a group we decide that we might as well join these two genres together by doing this it allows us to challenge ourselevs more as group using different techniques and experiment more. When we first started to look at documentry thrillers we was unsure as what target audience would be suitable for the genre of our choices so we came up with a vage age range which was 16-27, but after looking into the different trailers of documentaries we saw that they are mostly aimed at 15-25 both genders, the reason for the lower age is because of the younger main charcters that they have apperaing in the trailer/film.
The target audience of 15-25 can be a tough target audience to flim for as there is a hugh age gap between 15-25 this then limits us on what we can put into trailer, if we aim our trailer at people aged 15 then we have to be quite carful in what we put into the trailer for example we would have to limit the violence have less horror and blood, thats just a few examples of what we have to be careful on. If as a group we wanted to use a higher target audience for example 18-25 we woukd be able to use more violence and more thriller elements.Overall by going with the target audience of 15-25 it gives us as a group to have a wide range of different ages to aimed different factors in the
trailer at, by doing this it will allow us to ingage the audience more making them want to go and see the movie ( if it was real).
By looking at this pie chart you can see the percentage of what genre people prefer to watch. The three highest genres that people seem to prefer are Thriller, Rom-Com and Comedy. The highest percentage was Comedy this could be because most people enjoy being entertained and having something making them laugh. The lowest % was romantic the reason why this could be because not many people are age want to sit and watch a romantic movie because they might find it boring and not want to watch something that is not going to entertain them and make them laugh. From this feedback i we have learnt that we should maybe go with the idea of choosing the Horror genre or Comedy one. If we make this decision we have a higher chance of people actually wanting to watch our film and give it good reviews. 2.
This graph shows what the people chose as their least favourite genre. as you can see the highest number was documentary, the reason why this could be because most people are aged like to watch something that is going to make them laugh or make them jump. Some with documentaries they cant get very boring depending on what the narrative of the film is, if they link they link two of the genres together it makes a more interesting film to watch. The next three genres that people said that they did like to watch was comedy, romantic and horror, all of these answer did depend on the type of person we asked because ever one is different in what they like some people like horror and some people don't. From looking at this we can see the genre that we should try and avoid but not totally rule out from our decisions.
3.
This graph shows how many times a fortnight that people watch movies as we can see the highest number is 62% which is 1-4 movies this shows that people our age watch a lot of movies.
Here are two trailers that our group has looked at that link to our choson genre. The first trailer that we looked at was Parnomal Activity: The Mark Ones, when the trailer first starts we get a opening scene of what looks like a party, we also get a few other short scene of other places within the movie setting the scene of where the movie is going to be set. While this is going on we get cheerful upbeat music playing in the background. This starts to create a narrtive for the audience to go along with, but then it suddleny changes when the music cuts out and we hear the sound of sirens, this leads onto, us as the audience hearing a voiceover of one of the main character talking about what might of happened. As the trailer continues we see the main characters walking into what looks like a abandoned flat and the lighting goes dark and all we see is a little bit of light coming from a torch, this only allows us as the audience to see certain parts to the flat this gives the sense of mystry and fear because we don't know what is going on and what is going to happen. During the trailer there is not alot of music in the background and the music that has been used is really quite compared to the loud voices of the characters, when you listen to what the people are saying you can hear the terror in their voices. The shots that are used in this trailer is a POV shot and also some close up shots, by using the close up shots it allows the audience to see the terror on the characters faces. the pace of the cuts are very slow at the beginning but as the the terror starts to happen the cuts start to get quicker and very sharp cuts at that. When you get near to the end you get this Big Bang and it goes all black suggesting somegthing bad has happened.
The second trailer that we looked at was The Blaire Witch Project, which is based on a group of three students making a documentry on The Blaire Witch. When the trailer first starts we see a black screen with writing describing what the basic narrtive is of the flim, by doing this it gives the audience some sense of what the flim is going to be about. As the trailer carrys on we get a mid shot of one of the main characters explaining who she is and what the group are going to inbark on, after this we get a few clips of them interviewing the local people to see what they think about The Blaire Witch and to see if they think that she is real. Through out the trailer we get different short clips of the groups journey into discovering if the witch is real, During this the cuts that are made are very slow and there is no music playing in the background this suggest that they want you to listen to what they are saying this starts to build a atmosphere for the audience because it gets them thinking about whether this story could be real or not. When you get to about 1:09 in the tailer that is when the cuts to speed up and the tension starts to build up, when you look at the clips that are played from this point there is sill no muisc and all you here are the voices of the main characters, also thre lighting is much more darker and you can minimual lighting, this only allows us as the audience to see little bits of what is happening.By doing this it starts to build up the audiences feeling of not knowing what is happening and what is going to happen so this makes them want to see the movie.
What there also is throught out the trailer is that there are different reviews from certain Newspapers and other well know forms of media, this helps the audience decide weather this is a flim for them to take the time and see because if the have bad review people are not going to go see the flim. At the end of the trailer there is no billing block inforceing that this is a low budget film.
